We design specialised ROV training programmes for Navies, military, police units, fire brigades and SAR teams operating in challenging maritime and port environments.
Our courses combine IMCA-aligned training, realistic scenarios and hands-on missions at sea to support submarine operations, search and recovery, port security and critical incident response.
DEFENCE & SECURITY ROV TRAINING
This programme is aimed at Navy, coast guard, police and SAR personnel who need to operate observation and work-class ROVs in real missions.
Focus on mission planning, safe operation, communication with the surface team and basic fault-finding.
ROV SUPPORT TO SUBMARINE & DIVING OPERATIONS
Specialised training on how to use ROVs to support submarines, special forces and commercial / military divers.
Includes procedures for approach, visual assistance, line and tool delivery, and emergency support in low-visibility environments.
SUBSEA SEARCH & RECOVERY (BLACK BOX / EVIDENCE)
Tactical use of ROVs for search and recovery of flight recorders (black boxes), weapons, vehicles and other critical evidence.
Covers sonar search techniques, grid patterns, marking, lifting procedures and documentation for legal or incident reports.
PORT & CRITICAL INFRASTRUCTURE SECURITY WITH ROVs
Inspection and monitoring of ports, naval bases, piers, hulls and critical underwater structures.
Includes threat detection, hull sweeps, pier and wall inspection, as well as routine security patrols with ROVs.
EMERGENCY RESPONSE, RESCUE & DRILLS WITH ROVs
How to integrate ROVs into SAR operations, emergency drills and multi-agency exercises.
Scenario-based training for missing person search, vehicle in water, collision, grounding and hazardous environments.
ROV MAINTENANCE FOR DEFENCE UNITS
Focused on preventive maintenance, fault-finding and repair of ROV systems used by Defence and Security agencies.
Includes electronics, hydraulics (if applicable), fibre optics, connectors, spares management and documentation.
CUSTOM TACTICAL WORKSHOPS FOR DEFENCE & SECURITY
Tailor-made workshops developed with each unit to match their specific procedures and threat scenarios.
Can be delivered at QSTAR facilities or on-site, integrating the customer’s own ROV systems and protocols.
connectors, spares management and documentation.
ROV SIMULATOR (VMAX F-E-T)
ROV Mission Simulation for Submarine Support & Black Box Recovery
As part of our Defence & Security programmes, QSTAR uses the VMSX ROV simulator (Forum Technologies) to recreate realistic, high-risk underwater missions in a safe, controlled environment.
These simulations allow Navy and SAR teams to train complex procedures repeatedly before deploying at sea.
Scenarios:
Distressed Submarine Location & Approach
Simulation of locating a disabled submarine on the seabed using sonar and navigation aids, followed by controlled ROV approach respecting safety zones and communication protocols.
Submarine Podposting & Life Support Delivery
Practice of ROV-assisted delivery of Emergency Life Support Stores (ELSS) pods to a distressed submarine, including approach, positioning, release and confirmation of successful podposting.
Black Box Search & Recovery (Aircraft / Vessel)
Scenario-based search for a flight data recorder or voyage data recorder using sonar and visual tools. Includes search grid planning, target classification, marking, recovery procedures and safe lifting.
Debris Field Navigation & Evidence Collection
Operation of the ROV within a complex debris field around a submarine or crash site, focusing on situational awareness, obstacle avoidance and secure recovery of priority items.
Low-Visibility & High-Current Operations
Training in degraded conditions that simulate poor visibility, currents and limited acoustic coverage, where precise piloting and sensor interpretation are critical.
These simulator-based modules can be fully integrated into Defence & Security courses or delivered as standalone advanced training for submarine rescue teams, flight safety investigators and specialised SAR units.
